Neonatal and malnutrition is one of the biggest problem in Cambodia. Children between three years old to ten years old are not growing up well because of the lack of nutrition that their body needed to grow. The good news now is that, this problem is slowly getting better. There was a tremendous progress that was made in the year 2000 and 2005 in reducing the proportion of underweight children under the age of five. Then in the year 2008, there has been an effect of slowing down the progress in underweight children that is now currently at 28.8%. The improvement of this is at a slow pace and the percentage of stunted children are still high at 39.5%. The progress are slower than expected but it doesn't mean that it's not improving.
